Desde Puerto Montt se puede comenzar este circuito por el día hacia la famosa carretera austral (ruta a la arena). En esta caleta pesquera se toma un trasbordador para cruzar la desembocadura del Estuario Reloncaví. Después de un viaje de media hora que ofrece vistas maravillosas a la costa boscosa y la entrada a este hermoso fiordo, se llega a puelche, donde se toma la ruta hacia río puelo (a la izquierda). Este camino de ripio sigue 38 kilómetros bordeando estuario del Reloncaví y pasa a los pies del volcán Yate cuya cumbre nevada se levanta a 2.111 m.s.n.m, para llegar a Río Puelo, cabecera comunal de la comuna de Cochamó. En esta localidad existe la opción de seguir la ruta subiendo el hermoso Valle Puelo hasta Llanada Grande o continuar bordeando el estuario para llegar al pueblo de Cochamó donde le recomendamos visitar la antigua iglesia de arquitectura tradicional de tejuelas, ubicada al borde del mar. Desde aquí, sigue la ruta por la costa de la bahía Ralùn para llegar por Ensenada y Puerto Varas de vuelta hasta Puerto Montt. El circuito completo es de 250 km. Aprox.
You can Stara this day trip in Puerto Montt by way of the famous carretera austral, which is the extension of the Pan-American Highway. After taking the road towards la arena (a small fishing village), you cross the mouth of the Reloncaví fjord by ferry (see timetable below). After taking in breathtaking views od the deep forest shoe and the entrance to this magnificent fjord durin the 30 – minute ferry trip, you arrive at puelche, where you take the unpavd road to Puelo (on the left hand side). The road follows the coastline of the relonacì fjord and passes by the foot of majestic snowcapped Volcan Yates, whose mountain pek sits at a lofty 2.111 meters above sea level. After about 38 km. you arrive at the village of Rio Puelo – the local capital. From here you have two options. You can go further up the beautiful Puelo valley to the little village of Llanada Grande, from where you can indulge in a variety of excursions by either foot or on horseback. However, if you feel up to continuing your road trip, you can follow the coastal road to the village of Cochamó, where we recommend you visit the ancient wooden church built right by the sea. At this point the route follow the coastline of Ralun bay to Ensenada from where you can head back to Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. The round trip is about 250 km.
Cochamó es un lugar perfecto para practicar kayak de mar el cual es considerado como una aventura suave que cualquier persona sin experiencia previa puede practicar, pero siempre acompañado de un guía o instructor. El Río Puelo es famoso por su pesca y sus hermosas aguas color esmeralda las cuales pueden navegar desde Santo Domingo hasta el océano pacifico (precaución en el rápido llamado el salto 2') y si te interesa tener una experiencia cultural y distintas de hacer kayak de mar puede remar el lago azul, lago las rocas y lago inferior.
